archterra

Hi there, thanks for coming to have a look at our site and what we do.

Archterra is a small architectural practice located in Margaret River, Western Australia. The office is led by Paul O'Reilly and supported by a varying group of documentation technicians, engineers and consultants as well as pepper the office dog.  We aim to deliver honest, inspiring and environmentally sustainable homes and other small to medium sized projects to clients that have a respect for the natural environment and a desire to create something individual and special.

We are more than happy to chat for ages (or less) about all things architecture, environment, alternative power, pasture management or mountain biking, so please feel free to get in touch.

Paul graduated from Curtin University in 1995 and has worked in both small and large architectural firms in Perth, Broome, Darwin and Margaret River during his 20 odd year career.

A stint as a carpenters offsider following graduation gave him a keen insight into the construction side of the profession and in 2007 he began living the Margaret River 'dream' by first building and then living (and working) in a shed whilst constructing his own house. This 'hands on' approach helps maintain a focus on build-ability and economy of construction.

A desire to steer clear of the corporate architecture world led to 7 years working in Australia's tropical north, including 5 working in indigenous community architecture. This experience provided Paul with an invaluable understanding of design that responds to both the local climate and context and is evident in all of archterra's projects.

Paul has travelled thru Japan, the United States and New Zealand to study the local architecture and uses this experience to inform his design approach.

When not being an Architect, Paul spends time hanging out and travelling with his family, mountain biking, and adventuring along the coastline of the South West.

Paul has been a registered architect in Western Australia since 1997 and is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects. he also makes a pretty good butter chicken curry.
